Chico Enterprise-Record, Monday, May 20, 1968: "J.G. Coon. Funeral services will be held in the chapel of the Brusie Funeral Home at 2 p.m. Tuesday for Jesse G. Coon, 82, who died at a local nursing home Sunday. Coon was born in Durham Dec. 6, 1885. Coon received his education in the Durham schools and since that time was an almond rancher in Durham. Coon was a member of the Durham Lodge No. 311, Independent Order of Odd Fellows; Alta Rebekah Lodge No. 273; a former member of the Durham Rotary Club; head of the Dayton Civil Defense Unit during World War II; head of the Durham Red Cross and Community Chest drives; and a Trustee of the Durham Unified School District for 15 years. Survivors include his widow, Grace of Durham; a daughter, Adele Hackett of Durham; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Interment will be in the family plot in the Dayton Cemetery. Casketbearers will be Charles Schab, David Kidd, Fred Ryon, Darrell Wahl, Jerry Mann and Robert Skillin."
