George Wolfgang Krebs was born in Ansbach, Bavaria, Germany on 22 Oct 1812. He emigrated from Germany to the U.S. in 1849 and, for a while, worked in Philadelphia. Moving west, he met and married Theresia Wilhelm in Montgomery County, Ohio on September 1, 1855. The couple then moved to the area of Trenton, Illinois, later named De Pue, where George worked as a section hand for the railroad. By 1860, the family had moved to Manlius Township, Bureau County, Illinois where George took up farming as his occupation for the remainder of his life.
