R. E. "Rink" Hogan was the son of Gilbert Martin Hogan and his wife, Jennie Pratt Youngblood. He married first Ruth Helen Hoveland, daughter of Matt H. Hoveland and Anna Gurine Hammer of Washington state. His second wife was Georgette Pitkin McCormick, widow of Edward Earl McCormick. She was the daughter of John William Pitkin and Florence Harper of Illinois. Both wives preceded him in death. R.E. served his country as a master sergeant in the marine corp during World War II. He enlisted on January 29, 1937 and was honorably discharged on July 27, 1945. R. E. served in the 4th. Marine Regiment, the most honored marine regiment in World War II. His service took him from China to the South Pacific where he saw action on Emirau Island, in the Saint Matthias Group, Siapan, Guam, Guadacanal, and Bougainville. He was awarded the Soocho Creek Medal, a Good Conduct Medal, and a Purple Heart. After the war R.E. made his home in San Diego, California where he resided until his death. R. E. was raised a mason in East San Diego Lodge #561 on July 29, 1952. He went on to become a thirty-second degree mason and a past master of East San Diego Lodge #561 Free and Accepted Masons of California. He was also a member of Darius-San Diego Chapter #61, Royal Arch Masons of California. R.E.and his first wife were members of Estrella Chapter #412, Order of the Eastern Star of San Diego.
