Obituary
Unidentified Newsclipping - 1891
PAINE.--Miss. Lura B. Paine was the second daughter of Rev. Dr. and Mrs. Louis Paine, Methodist Episcopal pastor in Warren, Ohio. She was just completing her sophomore year in the classical course at Mount Union College, Alliance, Ohio, and had returned ill to her home on June 23. Her illness quickly revealed itself to be typhoid fever. She passed away in the early morning of July 1, 1891, being twenty years of age on February 2. Her funeral at Warren was largely attended. Of a bright and loving disposition, she was greatly loved. Dr. Marsh, President of Mount Union College, Professor Shunk, Professor Brush and many students came to her funeral. Dr. Marsh said: "She was a young lady rooted and grounded in excellent principles and holy purposes; of perfect self-control and of lovely disposition. The smile and sunshine of her presence always gave good cheer. Dr. Kellogg, her pastor at college, sent this word: "Spiritually and religiously as true as steel." Professor Shunk spoke of her school life and of her attainments, which were unusually high for one so young, and gave promise of great usefulness. Her grades in the classics especially were very high. The family are in deep grief over the sudden and early departure of one so loving, and in whom so many bright hopes had centered, and are alone comforted by the thought that though her bright and promising life has ended on earth her heavenly life has begun.
