Mary was the daughter of Lewis Giles Day and Elizabeth Ann (Kinzer) Day. She was the first wife of Ballard Remley Bailey, and they were the parents of ten children, four of whom died in infancy. Mary died at the age of 36 of typhoid fever. Her father, Lewis Giles Day was a Methodist minister. Her mother, Elizabeth Ann (Kinzer) Day was a sister of Thomas Burns Kinzer; Sarah J. (Kinzer) Bailey; John Broce Kinzer; Phillip Kinzer; Leony Kinzer; George W. Kinzer & Jasper Kinzer. Mary was a sister to : Marinda Ann (Day) Bruce, John Baxter Day, Sr, Margaret "Maggie" Matilda (Day) Belcher, Sarah "Sally Jane (Day) Bower, Ella L. (Day) Bailey, Florence Day, Lucinda T. Day, Lilly Pearl Day, Henry Sullius Day & Grover Cleveland Day.
She was the great-grandmother of Sarah Midkiff Agnew.
