He earned his bachelor's degree from the University of North Texas and his master's in education from West Texas A&M. He was superintendent of the Sunray, Claude, Canadian, and Stamford school districts, was the special education administrator of Eastland, Hill, and Gonzales counties.
Survivors include: wife of 47 years, Luzelle Bryan Beene; son: Richard Beene and wife Mercedes; daughter: Judy Lockett and husband Gordon; grandchildren, Josh and Jaryn Lockett; sister-in-law Emma Beene; numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service was held on Sunday, March 10, at 2:30 p.m. in the Finch Funeral Chapel in Nixon. The Rev. George Martin and the Rev. Hardy Childress officiated the service.
