Wives were Ruth Ethel Mendenhall, Etta Johnson,Fern Gibson, and Margaret Elizabeth Banner. He was a Baker by trade. He had a boarding house and restaurant in Meade County Kansas. He was divorced from Ruth Mendenhall and so he headed for South Dakota for the Gold mines. He had a mini stroke in May of 1948 and was institutionalized in 1949 for hitting someone. He was of the Quaker faith and followed it his whole life. With Ruth Mendenhall he had: Cecil, Raymond, Nova, Carl, Ella May and Margaret Elizabeth (Betty).
