DEATH CLAIMS CITY PIONEER WOMAN AT 83
Mrs. Annetta Daley Bright, who had the distinction of being one of the first children born in the old Mormon fort which marked the site of San Bernardino, died late Monday night at her residence, 347 Eighth street. She was 83 years old.
One of the earliest women teachers in the state, Mrs. Bright received her life certificate in 1871, thus establishing three generations of teachers in San Bernardino. Her daughter, Mrs. Grace B. Stopher, is principal of Jefferson school, and her granddaughter, Mrs. Josephine Hill, a music instructor in the city schools.
PIONEER STAMINA
Mrs. Bright was the widow of Joseph S. Bright, former mayor of San Bernardino and the contractor on the construction of Lake Arrowhead dam. He died Feb. 19, 1930. Her family has been prominently identified with San Bernardino since its earliest days.
Though a semi-invalid for the greater part of her life, Mrs. Bright possessed the stamina of her pioneer forebears and accomplished much during her long life. Three weeks ago her illness became serious and her death was not unexpected.
Her only son, J. Shirley Bright of Oakland, is expected to arrive in San Bernardino today. He is being accompanied by his son, Charles Bright.
FUNERAL THURSDAY
Near Mrs. Bright at the time of her death were her only brother, C. J. (Jeff) Daley, prominent pioneer resident of the city, and two of her sisters, Mrs. Celia Wall and Mrs. Kate Bryant, who reside here.
She also leaves two other sisters, Mrs. George E. Archer of San Francisco and Mrs. Frank Higgins of Merced.
Mrs. Bright resided at the Eighth street residence with her daughter, Mrs. Stopher, and the funeral services will be conducted from there at 2:30 p.m. Thursday. She will be buried in the family plot in City cemetery. Mark B. Shaw has charge of the arrangements.
