Henry Lenard Mason, 65, White Earth, Minn., died Sunday, May 13, 2001, in his home.
Mr. Mason was born June 16, 1935, in White Earth. He grew up in Pine Point, Minn., and attended Pipestone (Minn.) Indian School. He served in the U.S. Army for seven years, including during the Korean War. In 1968, he married Sarah Shebageget in International Falls, Minn. He worked as a wood cutter in northern Minnesota before moving to International Falls in 1974, where he worked for North American Indian Fellowship Center. He earned a degree in human services and worked as a chemical dependence counselor for the Minnesota Chippewa tribe in International Falls until retiring to White Earth in 1995. She preceded him in death.
He is survived by two sons, Thomas, Detroit Lakes, Minn., Sam, Mahnomen, Minn.; four daughters, Natalie Mason, Sharon Mason, Tracy Mason, all Mahnomen, Karen Mason, Thunder Bay, Ont.; two brothers, Gordon Mason, Minneapolis, Alvin
Bloom, Ponsford, Minn.; two sisters, Freida Sorenson, Appleton, Wis., Edith Bellcourt, Frazee, Minn.; and nine grandchildren. Visitation: Today from 4 until the funeral in the school. Funeral: Thursday at 11 in Pine Point School, Ponsford. Burial: St. Theodore's Cemetery, Pine Point.
