OBITUARY II

ALVA PHILLIPS, AGE 76, FOUND DEAD AT HOME

Alva C. "Sport" Phillips, 76 years old of Danville, was found dead at his home on South Kentucky street Tuesday evening. He had died some time Tuesday morning, according to Dr. Mount E. Frartz, coroner. Phillips had lived in Danville for many years, and during the summer time he worked a small truck garden. He came to Danville from Brownsburg, where he spent the early part of his life. Funeral services will be held at the Baker & Son chapel this afternoon at 2 o'clock, with burial in the East cemetery. Phillips is survived by a daughter and a brother in Illinois, and a son in Colorado.

NOTE: This author heard a story from a Grandniece of Alva's that she remembers as a child, her father getting a call from Indiana that a distant relative had died. The only way the authorities found anyone to contact was by a Christmas card located in the deceased home. Her Father and an Uncle went from Illinois back to Indiana for the funeral and their were very few people in attendance. This author believes that Alva's wife left him and took the family to Montana in the early 1900's. One of his grandchildren told this author that the reason the family left was of abuse. This author walked the East Cemetery in 1996 and could find no marker for the grave of Alva.
