LYNN - Martha Lucille Abernathy, 86, of Lynn, IN passed away early morning, Sunday, November 16, 2008 at Renaissance Specialty Hospital of Muncie. She was born July 21, 1922 in Montpelier, IN the daughter of Orval and Bertha (Helm) Fields. She was a graduate of Green Township H.S. and a homemaker.
Martha was known to friends and family as the "Quilt Lady". She quilted all her adult life and gave every child and grandchild a quilt to mark their special occasion, like marriage, graduation, also for Christmas and birthday gifts.
She leaves to cherish her memory a son, Dale W. Abernathy (wife, Robin) of Mooreland, IN; a daughter, Linda Johnson (husband, Jim) of Muncie; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Margaret and Ray Warnes; sister-in-law, Edna Fields; eleven grandchildren, Bruce Ward, Jr., Rhonda Ward, Stacey Stamper, Michelle Hartman, Dale Abernathy II, Darian Abernathy, Nathan Abernathy, Jo Ella Johnson, Carol Perkinson, Ericka Bunnell and Jennifer Drollinger; eighteen great grandchildren, Josh, Randal, Shannon, Lindsey, Courtney, Skyler, Casandra, Dakota, Peyton, Ryan, Zachary, David, Crystal, Daniel, Jonathan, Mackenzie, Maria and Kenneth Jr.; also many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Alice Roland; brothers, Richard and Harold Fields; son-in-law and daughter, Bruce "Bo" and Judy Ward; Husband, George A. ; and grandsons, Brian and Jason.
A service to celebrate Martha's life will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, November 20, 2008 at Thomas Memorial Chapel of Lynn. Burial will follow at Salem Cemetery of Modoc.
