Danny Lee Acord, 54, of Oceana, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, February 22, 2006 from an apparent heart attack. Danny was a 1969 graduate of Oceana High School. He retired from Peabody Coal Company, Kopperston No. 1 Mine, was a member of UMWA Local Union 7604, a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam Conflict stationed in Korea, and a member of VFW Daniel Lewis Post 8364.
He was born on December 24, 1951 at Oceana to Mildred Faye Johnson-Acord (1928-2014) and the late Lloyd Clinton Acord (1923-2001).
In addition to his mother, Danny is survived by his wife of 30 years, Terry Thompson-Acord; two daughters, Christie Acord-Cline & husband, Eddie Cline of Sun Hill and Katrina Acord-Birchfield of Oceana; five grandchildren, Austin Cline, Caitlin Cline, Cassidy Cline, Trevor Birchfield, and Kylee Birchfield, his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Pauline Connor and Ralph Connor of Willow Springs, NC; a brother, Lloyd Curtis Acord & wife Judy Acord of Ghent; four sisters, Brenda Louise Acord-Lovins (1950-2020) & husband Michael "Mike" Clarence Lovins of Oceana, LaDonna Sue Acord of Oceana, Doris Ann Acord-Reed & husband, Mickey Reed of Bolt and Bonita Faye Acord-Sayre & husband, Douglas Sayre of Daniels; brother-in-law, Charles Connor of Brick, NJ; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
Service will be 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 26, at Toneda Baptist Church with the Rev. James Walker and the Rev. Johnny Toler officiating. Burial will follow in Palm Memorial Gardens, Matheny.
