Jacob M. "Jake" Miller, 82, of Millers Hollow Lane, died Monday morning, Nov. 17, 2008, in Augusta Medical Center. Born Dec. 17, 1925, in Haven, Kan., he was a son of Moses P. and Susana (Miller) Miller.
Jake came to the Valley in 1951 and made his home in Swoope. He was a farmer all his life, and he retired from Smith's Transfer. He also had been employed by the Lehigh Cement Plant and Staunton Creamery. He was an avid bowler and a member of West View United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Irmgard (Moeckel) Miller; a brother, Christian Miller; and four sisters, Polly Caseman, Sarah Troyer and Katie and Susana Miller.
Surviving are a son, Michael Dale Miller and his wife, Melissa, of Swoope; two daughters, Ruth Miller Corell and her husband, Andrew, of Mechanicsville and Mary Miller Baxter and her husband, Stephen, of Swoope; two sisters, Mattie Troyer of Colon, Mich., and Mary Hershberger of Millersburg, Ohio; a brother, Harvey Miller of Harper, Kan.; four half brothers, Moses, Rueben, Harry and Henry Miller, all of Ohio; a half sister, Rachael Girod of New York; five grandchildren, Sarah Corell of Mechanicsville, Dustin Hevener and wife, Jillayne, of Lansing, Mich., Jamie Corell of Mechanicsville, Cari Gibson and her husband, Joe, of DeBary, Fla., and Jacob Matthew Miller of Swoope; and four stepgrandchildren, Edward Baxter of Atlanta, Andrew Baxter of Augusta, Ga., William Baxter of Staunton and Emily Kline of Swoope.
