HER FATHER:
Gilly BROWN
Given Name: Gilly
Surname: Brown
Sex: M
Birth: Jan 1875 in Arkansas
Death: 8 Feb 1949

Note:
Per Nell:
"Gilly Brown ( Gilly B. Brown ) died about 1949 perhaps. Gilly was his only name and he had to have a middle initial according to the Goverment (supposedly something to do with conscription or grafting ) I suppose he
simply had to have another name so he chose initial "B". There was no name. The origin of Gilly is an English name given to the ruling monarch, or the person who helped Queen Victoria for instance who helped her with her horses was "Gilly" and Ada Ruth Brown also had a nickname of
"Gilly" .
"Gilly Brown was born in Boone Co. AR. His parents lived in Boone Co. AR when that was a remote and moutainous region. Gilly told of many stories of his memories of hunting bear. They had a communtiy feast with game as large as a bear, and it was quite a festivity. Valley
Springs must have been the area as that is where Gilly was born.
He had a very happy childhood, and had older brother Lee Brown. Valley Springs Academy Professor had boarded with the Browns and the Professor was from Germany . . . . and after he left Boone Co. AR he wrote to the Browns."
"Jacob Brown and his family moved to Morrillton AR from Harrison AR.
Gilly Brown met Arty Hamilton who had been in Marshall Co. KY and was her birth place, not far from the Illinois border, and near to Paducah, KY. Benton Ky is the County Seat of that county. Arty was one of 9
children of the Hamilton Family. Not all lived to adulthood and her mother died in childbirth. At that time Arty was only 13, and they had a difficult time after the death of Arty's mother. Her father was a tobacco farmer, but the family struggled. . . . . Arty Hamilton was
about in the middle of the siblings ages, and the child born when the mother died, was the apple of the whole families eyes. Her name was Emma Hamilton and she was 2 years old and died of Diptheria. Arty had a vivid
memory of the family around the bed of the little Emma when she died.
Then Arty's father, Lewis Clark Hamilton met and married America or Americus Mashburn. . . ." When America was quite old she was taken care of by Uncle Kirk ( Curt
) in his home in Morrillton, and I do remember her," continued Nell.
"I have been visiting with the Hamiltons ( clan ) in KY. .. .
Nell wrote a brief history and bio of her mother, Arty Hamilton in the Conway Co. AR History book, and was published in the 1990's.
"Arty Hamilton married 18th Feb. 1912, married Gilly Brown and this was his second marriage. Gilly's first wife left him, and desserted him and their child, Buddy Brown. They lived with Gilly Brown's mother, the one they called "mammie".
"Gilly had piercing blue eyes and dark hair, and loved to hunt. He was good with his hands and could make toys and could garden well."
Nell talked about how they butchered hogs and they knew they would have fresh ham, and they shared what they had with those in need. . . . .Nell told of hard times, but how they made do with what they had and they
bought a cow and sold milk, and Nell and Grace delivered the milk. Nell mentioned her older sister, Ada Ruth, or "Oosh" as Nell called her, with
a lot of love for both Ada Ruth and her husband, Jers Rogers. -
