Wilbert Augustus (Pete) Dearing, Jr., 68, of Harrisburg, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 19, 2008, at his home.

Born on August 13, 1940, in Harrisburg, he was the son of the late Wilbert Sr. and Ellen Briggs Dearing.

He was retired from the Pittsburgh Plate Glass (PPG) Company and was a 50-year member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church.

Pete was the first black man to volunteer with the Camp Curtain Fire House and served over 35 years.

He is survived by his loving wife, Rose E. Thompson Dearing, his son, Karmin B. and his wife, Michelle A. Dearing, of Harrisburg, his daughter, Darlene A. Dearing, of Steelton, his sister, Ellen Livingston, of Harrisburg, his brother, Kenneth Dearing, of Huntersville, NC, his aunt, Minnie Redcross, of Harrisburg, his uncle, Daniel Elliott of Oklahoma City, OK, and two sisters-in-law, June Diggs and Anita Knight.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, November 24, 2008, in St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 248 Seneca Street, Harrisburg, with the Rev. Victor J. Thomas officiating.

A viewing will be held from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service. Burial will be in Churchville Cemetery.
