Alkus E. "Gus" Mixon, loving husband and father, was born March 22, 1924 in Bonifay, FL, and went to be with the Lord November 18, 2008 in Panama City. Gus served his country in the US Navy, serving during WWII and Korea, and retiring as a 1st Class Petty Officer. After his retirement, Gus worked in sales and delivery with Welder's Supply and National Car Rental. He was a longtime, faithful member of St. Andrew Episcopal Church, and was a life member of the Fleet Reserve. Gus loved fishing and spending time with his family.

He was predeceased by his parents, Grady and Cassie Mixon; a sister, Vernel "Nell" Mauldin; and his brothers, Alfred and Jessie Mixon.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Selma Wright Mixon of Panama City; his children, Ivan Mixon and his wife Susie of Marathon, FL, Carol Rivers and her husband Arden of Colorado Springs, CO, Sharon Bayless of Simi Valley, CA and Glenn Mixon and his wife Virginia of Panama City; 7 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Monday, November 24, 2008 at the St. Andrew Episcopal Church with Fr. John Wave officiating. Interment with full military honors offered by the US Navy Honor Guard will follow at Evergreen Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday, November 23, 2008 from 5:00 until 7:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Mr. Mixon's name may be made to the Chester A. Sims VA Nursing Home. Gus was much loved by family and friends, and will be greatly missed.
