Glenn Aery Parker, age 88, of DeFuniak Springs, Fla., passed away at the family residence Monday, Jan. 5, 2009. He was born on May 26, 1920, in Opp, Ala., the son of James Henry Nathaniel Levi Parker and Era Marshall Grantham Parker. Mr. Parker was a veteran, having served his country with the U.S. Army until his medical discharge. He was a member of DAV. He owned and operated several businesses but mainly was owner of Parker Mechanical Contractors where he held contracts with Walton and Holmes counties. During this time he was active in local politics and was elected to the Walton County Board of Education where he served as chairman in the early '70s. After his retirement in 1979 he traveled the United States, Canada and Mexico. He always stayed active in politics and was a member of the Walton Democratic Committee. He was a member of IBEW Pensacola Chapter and of Oakgrove Baptist Church. He was predeceased by his wife, Juanita Majors Parker; his daughter, Nancy Parker Breedlove; his brothers, William Taft, James Burley, Robert Beasley and Malcolm Edward; and his sisters, Sarah Ailene and Lola Quida. Among survivors are his daughter, Glenda Sue Parker of DeFuniak Springs; and his sister, Flora Juanita Parker of Tampa, Fla. Private family burial will be in Bonifay Cemetery.
