Jesse Nolan Quick, 80, of Sheridan, died Nov. 13, 2008, at Riverview Hospital Hospice in Noblesville. Born May 24, 1928, in Boone County, he was the son of Orvie L. "Mike" and Fontanell (Clampitt) Quick; they preceded him in death. He married Anne Leonard in 1948; she survives. A 1945 graduate of Sheridan High School, Quick had his own contracting business in 1948-49 and built several houses in and around Sheridan and Indianapolis. He worked for 30 years as a maintenance supervisor at Chrysler Casting of Kokomo, retiring in 1987. He was a member of the Sheridan Wesleyan Church. While in school, he played football for the Sheridan Blackhawks, and remained an avid Blackhawk football fan, rarely missing a game. He was a founder of Sheridan Little League in 1958 and was awarded a plaque from the U.S. Jaycees for Distinguished Service and Outstanding Leadership. He was a building commissioner for the Town of Sheridan for 20 years, and for 30 years he entertained children and adults every Fourth of July when he dressed as Emmett Kelly the clown and passed out suckers. His granddaughter joined him in this tradition at age 5. He and his wife enjoyed going on trips that were arranged by their son, Pat. After retirement he enjoyed spending time in Florida until his health prevented traveling.
Other survivors include son Mike N. (wife Margie) Quick of Sheridan; granddaughter Angie (husband Wally) McNew of Indianapolis; two great-grandchildren Peyton & Lilly McNew; two brothers Martin (wife Phyllis) Quick of Sheridan and Jon Bill (wife Patty) Quick of Kirklin; and several nieces and nephews.
