George Ferrier McWhirter son of George Marlin McWhirter and grandson of William McWhirter; the grandfather moved from Mecklenburg County North Carolina in 1778 and settled on Mansker's Creek near Goodlettsville where he died in 1803 and was buried at Spring Hill, five miles from Nashville;William McWhirter was one of the signers of the Cumberland Compact; George Marlin McWhirter followed his father to Tennessee in 1785 and settled near him; there George Ferrier McWhirter was born March 28, 1788;as a soldier Under Gen. Andrew Jackson fought against Creek Indians; in the the battles of Emuckfaw and Horseshoe. joined MEC June 1820; died January 2, 1873 buried at Mt. Olivet Cemetery Nashville; left widow and children: Mrs. Anne Blair, Dr. Samuel Hogg McWhirter of Athens Tennessee; George Merlin McWhirter of Belton, Bell county, Texas; Andrew Jackson McWhirter and Fountain Pitts McWhirter of Nashville, Tennessee.
