Samuel & Marie moved from Quebec Providence to Ontario Providence, where their children were born except the last one who was born in Ohio. They became the parents of 9 children. There is no record of their conversion to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, but at about this same time, there was an influx from Lower Canada to Nauvoo and Kirtland. Some of the early pioneers who were later prominent church members and leaders came, among them were John Taylor and the Lance's family.


The Lance family settled in Nauvoo, Marie Allard Lance and her married daughter Nancy, wife of Charles Stuart (Stewart) and Nancy's daughter Mary were members of the first Relief Society when it was organized on March 17, 1842. They were not charter members at the first meeting but joined at a later meeting and were active in that organization.


In 1847 they began the long slow journey across the plains to Utah and spent the winter of 1857-1848 in Winter Quarters, while spending the winter in Winter Quarters,
