Edward Liberty Pugh, 88, died Thursday, November 20, 2008, at Hospice Ministries. Visitation will be held at Briarwood Presbyterian Church on Monday, November 24, 2008 at 10 am with funeral services to follow at 11 am. Interment with military honors is to follow at Lakewood Cemetery.
Arrangements are being handled by Breeland Funeral Home.
Pugh was born September 14, 1920, in Vicksburg to Horace Lee Pugh and Isabelle Liberty Pugh. After graduating from Carr Central High School in 1941, he proudly served his country in the military for over eight years with his unit Company B, 106th Engineer Combat Battalion, 24th and 31st Infantry "Dixie Division."
He retired from South Central Bell where he had been a construction supervisor for 38 years and was a member of the Pioneers of America.
Pugh was a member of Briarwood Presbyterian Church where he served as an ordained Elder and deacon for 42 years. He was devoted and active in the life of the church by maintaining the building and the grounds and furnishing flowers for the church that were raised in the garden.
Survivors include: wife of 65 years, Marjorie; daughter and son-in-law, Gail and Clay Mateer; granddaughters, Melissa Jeffress and husband Mack, Jennifer Powell and husband, Stuart, and Rachel Mateer; great-grandchildren, Logan Jeffress and Kate Powell. Other family members include: Devon Mateer, Sloan Mateer, and Grace Craig.
