Obituary:
Maybell Dean Cox, 225 N. Coulson, Fruita, died of natural causes Wednesday in Family Health West Nursing Home in Fruita. She was 87.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Fruita with Bishop LaVern Kohls conducting.
Visitation will be until 8 p.m. today at the McLean Funeral Home chapel in Fruita and from 1 p.m. until service time Saturday in the church.
Mrs. Cox was born Aug. 14, 1905, to Clyde William and Retta May Appier Likes in Mardock, Cleveland County, Oklahoma Territory. She was the first of nine children. She spent her early childhood in Oklahoma and Kansas, moving to Colorado in 1918 when the family moved to a homestead in the New Liberty Community. She graduated from the eighth grade at New Liberty School in 1922.
The family moved in 1922 to Colorado Springs while she attended Friends University in Haviland, Kan. She also was employed for a time as a telephone operator in Colorado Springs before her family returned to the Mack/New Liberty area in 1925. After they returned she was employed at the Uintah Hotel in Mack.
She married Leonard Melvin Cox on July 13, 1926, in Delta. He is deceased.
Survivors include a daughter, Joan Evans of San Ramon, Calif.; two grandsons, Donald Frank of Littleton and Douglas Frank with the U.S. Marine Corps stationed in Aberdeen, Mass.; five great-grandsons, Todd, Paul, Brian, Erik and Brandon Frank; three great-granddaughters, Genevieve, Amy and Lisa Frank; five brothers, Ivan R. Likes of Delta, E. Fred Likes of Shelton, Wash., Homer C. Likes of Orem, Utah, Lewis D. Likes of Fruita and Richard A. Likes of Collbran.
A grandson, Chuck Frank; two brothers, Ray and Clyde; and a sister, Virginia, are deceased.
McLean Funeral Home Inc. in Fruita is in charge of arrangements.
