George P. Ransom, was captured by Indians and Tories in December 1780 while visiting friends in Plymouth and taken to Canada. After enduring cruelties and indignities without number, he succeeded in making his escape from an island in the St Lawrence river, and with two others made his way through the forests to Vermont, and thence to Connecticut.

Col. Ransom was originally buried at the Shupp Cemetery and later relocated to Shawnee Cemetery

His first wife was Olive Utley (1760-1793)
