Everett Melvin Whitehouse was the oldest child of David S. Whitehouse and Cordelia White. His actual birth date is not known but various records show he must have been born about 1838. He was born in Maine, but the location is not known. It is assumed it was in Kennebec County as his family had been there for some time and he lived there all his life. He served in the Civil War rising to rank of Captain. He served in the Maine 19th at the Battle of the Wilderness and at Gettysburg, part of the successful defense at Little Round Top. He married Harriet N. Wall in 1863 in China, ME. He and Harriet had 9 known children. Everett was survived by his wife and 3 adult children and 4 minor children. 3 children preceeded him in death.
