Ezekiel Jones Chapman, oldest child of Deacon William Chapman and Caroline (Jones) Chapman, was born at Saybrook, Connecticut, on August 13, 1781. He studied theology and was licensed to preach by the Tolland Association on October 6, 1801. On October 28 he was ordained an evangelist, at Hebron, and in November was sent by the Connecticut Missionary Society to the Western Reserve of Ohio. He left this field in April 1803, and in 1804, went to Ontario County, New York, where he preached for over 20 years. In 1827 he moved to Oneida Lake and lived there until his death on August 1, 1866.
Mr. Chapman was married twice. He first married Palmyra Adams, of Brookfield, New York, on April 18, 1804. She died at Livonia, New York, on July 31, 1826. He later married Tryphena Clark, of Lebanon, New York. He had 5 children by his first marriage and 1 by the second.
