Died, at 8 a.m., Friday, Dec. 8, 1916, at the family residence, South Eleventh street, of complications of diseases, William Frederick Kussmaul, aged 84 years, the oldest merchant in Springfield. Mr. Kussmaul was born in Wortemberg, Germany, Feb. 29, 1832. He came to America and direct to Springfield in 1854, where he had since resided. he had conducted a grocery store at the same location in South Eleventh street since 1866. He was probably one of the oldest merchants in the city, both in age and length of time of being in business.
Mr. Kussmaul is survived by his widow, Mrs. Christena Kussmaul; two sons, Henry and Julius of this city, and two daughters, Mrs. Elizabeth Ewart of Barbertown, Ohio, and Miss Emma Kussmaul, at home. IL State Register, Springfield, IL 12-9-1916
