He was born to Frances and Catherine Babue they moved when he was seven to Springfield MA, he moved to Sioux City IA in 1877 and came to Rapid City from Sioux City by Ox wagon spending six weeks on the way in 1878 with his cousin A L "Fred" Babue.
In the 1860 census of Mass the family includes, Charles, Edward and Fannie besides Max.
They were sucessful carpenters. They built a carpenter shop in Rapid City and for several years did a thriving business
After 1880 when Fred fell from a horse and died he went into the cattle business with Peter Duhamel, he married Peter's daughter Matilida Nov 14, 1887 and they had four children, Angelina who married Earl Bobier and another daugher Bertha married Ernest Smith, a son Paul died at the age of 24 in 1924. Also surviving is a brother Napoleon or Plattsburg N and two grandchildren
Max lived in Rapid City until about a month ago when he was taken to Sturgis to make his home with his daughter
