Nicholas Jacob Longen was born on May 27, 1875 in Springfield, Illinois, and. He was the son of Jacob Longen and Anna Maria Horsch. He lived in Springfield his whole life, and was employed for twenty years by the Baker Manufacturing Co., not once ever missing a day of work. He was a very hard worker and a very good husband to his wife, Margaret. In 1904 he married Margaret Susan Schuller and had five children; Anna Margaret, Nicholas Jacob Jr., George Thomas, Lucille Agnes, and Dorothy Marie. Dorothy died as a baby at not even a year old. Nick was a member of Holy Name society of Sacred Heart parish and of Sacred Heart church. Nick was a very good man and loved to tease his grandkids. He had a little hobby of making wine and root beer, and he loved working in the garden. His legs were very bad and they would bleed because of his heart problems. Nick died on December 29, 1942 in Springfield, Illinois, of a heart attack at the age of 67. His burial was in Calvary Cemetery, Springfield, Illinois.
