In 1871 he moved form Owensboro, KY, to Central City to join his brother, James Berryman, as a partner in the mercantile business. Three years later, he returned to Owensboro to marry Ellen Riley on April 23rd. The brothers dissovled their partnership in 1902.
He was a bee keeper in later years with some 350 colonies of bees and the largest apiary in the central west in one location.
He graduated from the Commercial School of Accounting in Evansville, Indiana.
He was survivied by three children: Cary Berryman Guthrie (Fred), William Riley Berryman of New York and Clyde Vernon Berryman of Texas. A daughter, Mary Sue Berryman, died as a child.
