Mrs. J. W. Brent, 90, Dies at Bogue Chitto
Mrs. J. W. Brent, 90 years of age, and revered as one of Lincoln county's oldest and most prominent residents, passed on shortly before noon Sunday, at her home in Bogue Chitto.
She had been in ill health for some time and her condition had been serious for several days.
Mrs. Brent, until her last illness, was remarkably well preserved, her health, activity and faculties being a matter of pride and satisfaction to the family and admiring friends. Her wisdom, courage, kindness and interesting personality made her beloved by all.
Anniversaries and holidays were marked usually by celebrations and visits from members of her devoted family from a distance.
The former Miss Jane Price, Mrs. Brent was a native of Lincoln county and had spent virtually her whole life at Bogue Chitto. She was a devoted wife and mother and a factor in her community. She was a loyal member of the Baptist church of Bogue Chitto. Her husband died in 1922 and a son, Dr. Walter Brent of Hammond, La., had passed away within the past few months.
Surviving Mrs. Brent are four daughters, Mrs. G. W. Connely of Brookhaven; Mrs. B.F. Herman of Crosby; Miss Clara Brent and Mrs. Wm. Cox, both of whom lived at the family home with their mother, and a son, Mr. R. L. Brent of Picayune. She leaves 14 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. A sister, Mrs. Mary Moak and two half-brothers, Messrs Theo and Burt Price of East Bogue Chitto also survive.
The funeral was announced for Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock in the Baptist church at Bogue Chitto, the pastor, Rev. Henderson, to officiate. Interment was planned for the Bogue Chitto cemetery. Nephews were to be pall bearers.
