Cecil was a rancher in the sandhills of Nebraska. He lived in Cherry County most of his life. He raised cattle and cut hay. He served in the US Army during World War II. He retired in Valentine, Nebraska for several years, later he moved to his son's Ralph's ranch. Cecil and Dorothy had three children. His daughter Donna died in 1961 at the age of 7 years 4 months and 27 days, cause of death cancer. She is buried in Kilgore Cemetery with Cecil. Gaylene lives in Avoca, Iowa, Ralph lives on his ranch north of Grand Island in Nebraska.
