Bernice Hough was the step-daughter of Archie Hough and daughter of Lucy Weaver Hough, who are buried nearby.

Bernice married Ray M. Barnes. Ray died in 1957.

The 1968 Wichita Directory shows; Bernice M. Barnes, (widow of Ray M.), was working as a meat wrapper for Maxwell Markets. Her residence was 727 S. Gordon Ave.

On August 9, 2008, Bernice and her daughter Pat attended a Barnes family reunion held at the meeting house at Osage Park in south Wichita. About 70 family members were there that day.

"Barnes, Bernice M., 88, loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away Saturday, November 22, 2008. There will be visitation with family present Tuesday from 6-8 pm. Funeral services will be 11:00 am. Wednesday, November 26, 2008, at Broadway Mortuary Chapel. She is preceded in death by her husband, Ray Barnes; parents, Archie and Lucy Hough; brother, Eldred "Red" Hough; sister, Edith Brockman. Survivors; son, Russell; daughter, Patricia Rackie; brother, Donald Hough; sister, Delma (Louis) Raple; sister-in-law, Georgia Hough; grandchildren, Deron (Daneen) Rackie, Brian Rackie, Doug (Pam) Barnes, Stephanie Barnes; great-grandchildren, Michael Barnes, Curtis Rackie, Blake Barnes, Brett Rackie, Bailee Rackie. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Michael J. Fox Foundation For Parkinson's Research. Services by Broadway Mortuary."

Pastor Aaron Fenlason of New Life Church officiated the funeral service. Bernice was laid to rest near her husband Ray at Wichita Park Cemetery, Wichita, Kansas.
