He was ailing for several years due to heart trouble, gradually growing weaker until Apr 9, 1937, when he had a stroke and passed away very suddenly. Early in his life he united with the Mennonite Church, remaining faithful till death, always being deeply concerned for the welfare of the Church.
In March, 1881, he was united in marriage to Fannie Kennel. To this union were born 3 sons and 3 daughters. One son died in infancy. His wife died April 6, 1915.
In 1916, he was married to Mrs. Mattie Erb of O'Neill, Neb., who died on Jul 25, 1930. Since that time he made his home with his daughter, Mrs. Ott.
He was a kind and devoted husband and father, ready to lend a helping hand to those in need. During his illness he suffered very patiently and did not want to be a burden to any one.
He leaves 5 children (Mrs. J. W. Oswald, West Point, Neb.; Mrs. Wm. Oswald, and Albert of Beemer, Neb.; Mrs. L. A. Ott of O'Neill; and John of Redwood Falls, Minn.), 1 sister (Barbara Erb of Tavistock, Ont.), 28 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, and 7 stepchildren.
