Killed and originally buried in Tennessee. Re-interred here at Corinth National.

In July 2014, I spoke by telephone and email to Raymond Miller, Director at Corinth National, about another marker at Corinth which was also for a Sidney Clifton in an effort to determine which of these was my ancestor. Mr. Miller then researched the issue and informed me that in his opinion the other marker (K-700 5003) was an erroneous duplicate marker and that marker should be destroyed and then replaced by a marker for an "Unknown". I asked if I could have it, but Mr. Miller informed me that by regulation it must be destroyed. There is a photo of the marker for K-700 5003 taken prior to its destruction amongst the photos on this memorial. Only this marker at B-118-3313 will be left in place.

Mr. Miller informed me that duplicate burials at Corinth were not altogether uncommon as none of the Civil War soldiers buried at Corinth were originally buried here. All of them are re-interments and most of them are "Unknowns". By late 1870 there were more than 5,688 interments in the cemetery — only 1,793 have been identified and the rest are unknown soldiers.

Henceforth, the plot at B-118-3313 will formally be recognized as the only Sidney Clifton buried at Corinth.
