Madalyn C. Abbey, 102, a longtime Honesdale resident, died Wednesday morning at home. She was preceded in death by her husband, Irving S. Abbey, on April 4, 1935.
Born Aug. 22, 1906, in Atco, she was the daughter and last surviving family member of the late George A. and Magdalena "Lillie" Reinfurt Case. She spent her childhood in Welcome Lake before moving to Honesdale in 1922. She was a faithful member of the Central United Methodist Church in Honesdale since 1925 and celebrated her 100th birthday there. For 55 years, Madalyn was employed at Katz Underwear Factory, first as a sewing machine operator and later as a floor supervisor.
Surviving are a son, Irving R. Abbey and wife, Edith M., East Stroudsburg; a grandson, Daniel W. Abbey and wife, Anna Marie T., South Bound Brook, N.J.; and many other relatives and friends who will miss her dearly.
She was also preceded in death by a brother, Arthur; and three sisters, Frances, Margaret and Jeanette.
Funeral services will be Saturday at noon in the Hessling Funeral Home, 428 Main St., Honesdale. Private interment will be in Hamlin Cemetery.
Friends may call Saturday, 11 to noon. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Central United Methodist Church, 205 11th St., Honesdale, 18431.
