Major League Baseball Player. Born John Robert Murff, he was a pitcher for two seasons (1956 to 1957) with the Milwaukee Braves. In 1957, he appeared in 12 games with the Braves' team that would win the World Series title that year. In 26 career games, he won 2 and lost 2 with a 4.65 lifetime ERA. Murff was named The 1955 Minor League Player of the Year by The Sporting News, while compiling a 27 win and 11 lost record with the Dallas Eagles. After retiring as a player, Murff was a scout with the New York Mets and is credited with discovering Hall of Fame pitcher Nolan Ryan. He was inducted into the Texas Baseball Hall of Fame in 1989.
