While walking in his sleep, Ralph E. Houston, aged 38 years, Springfield, met death at an early hour yesterday morning when he fell five stories to the pavement from a window in his room at the Arcade hotel in Decatur. By a strange coincidence Houston met his death on the second anniversary of the death of his brother (Clarence M.) who was killed here in a street car accident two years ago yesterday.
Edward Houston, brother of the dead man, immediately went to Decatur to claim the body. The remains were removed to the undertaking establishment of Gaa & Murray and later taken to the family residence on Moffat avenue.
Houston is a contractor in this city and has been out of work for sometime. Last Tuesday he went to Decatur to search for work, and had intended to move there later. He went to the Arcade hotel with a companion and shortly after he went to bed. That was the last seen or heard of Houston until found yesterday morning by a patrolman.
Mrs. Ralph Houston, the grief stricken wife of the dead man, stated that she is absolutely sure that Mr. Houston did not attempt to end his life but that it was accidental. She also said that he had been in the habit of walking in his sleep and that they were afraid that something would happen.
Decedent is survived by his widow, Mrs. Ralph E. Houston; five children, Etta, Emmet, Roy and Rosie; his parents, four brothers, Sam, John, William and Edward Houston, all residing in this city.
