Gladys Fern Smith, 79, died at 3:35 AM Tuesday, Aug. 10, 1982, in her home at St. Elmo.

She was born in Wheatland Township Aug. 3, 1903, to William Nowlin and Edna May Sidener Nowlin. She resided in this area for 40 years. She was a member of the Herrick Christian Church and a retired Richardson Bros. Greenhouse employee. She married Glenn C. Smith, April 15, 1922 in Vandalia. He died June 6, 1976.

She is survived by a son, Albert William Smith of Magnolia, N.J.; six daughters, Mildred Kohl, Cambridge, Ohio; Jean May, Clinton; Roselyn Stine, Loogootee; Letta Morris, St. Elmo; Janet McEndollar, Loogootee, and Judy Barnick, St. Elmo; two brothers, Maurice Nowlin, Brainard, Minn., And Leon Nowlin, St. Elmo; two sisters, Hazel Durbin of Elwin and Thelma Richardson, Olney; 25 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren.

One Brother, one great-great grandchild preceded her in death.

Funeral services will be held at 11 AM, Saturday, Aug.14, at May Funeral Home. Visitiationis scheduled from 4 to 9 PM Friday, Aug. 13. Burial will be in Sidener Cemetery
