Ira married Mattie Mae King on September 12, 1916. They were the parents of three children:

Surviving other than his wife are one son, William Berkley Kilmon of Montross; two daughters, Mrs. Mae Kilmon Packett, of Montross. and Mrs. Audrey Kilmon Turner, Vienna, VA.; one sister, Mrs. Ruth K Zeller, of Montross; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
