My great grandfather, James Hobart Flynn, maintained that his grandfather, Joseph B. Flinn's middle name was "Baxter." In fact, Hobart said that his father, Elijah Baxter Flynn, received his middle name from Joseph.

Joseph B. Flynn (Flinn) enlisted during the Civil War as a private in E Company of the 1st Tennessee Light Artillery Battalion of the Union Army on 4 October 1863. He enlisted in Knoxville, Tennessee. He died in a military hospital of Small Pox in Nashville, Tennessee on 16 Feb 1864.
