Day -- L.E. Day, of Osawatomie, died Sunday, Nov. 10, at the Missouri Pacific hospital (sic) in St. Louis. His health began to fail a few months ago but he was only critically ill a week. Lewis Edwin, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Day, was born Mar. 7, 1875, in Stanton township. Nearly all of his life was spent on a farm three miles north of Osawatomie and in his home in Osawatomie. He was married to Caddie Roberts at the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. T.E. Roberts on Thanksgiving day Nov. 25, 1897. To them four children were born, three of whom survive. He worked as a telegraph operator until his retirement last March, at which time he completed 30 years of railroad service. In early life he united with the Baptist church, being a consecrated Christian, a devoted husband and father and a real neighbor. Surviving are a daughter, Alta, wife of Earl Durrant, of near Osawatomie, two sons, Albert, of Osawatomie, and Roberts, of Kansas City. Loree, a daughter, died in 1929. Also he is survived by four grandchildren, two brothers, Phares Day, of Kansas City, Kan., Ben Day, of Brownsville, Tex., and three sisters, Lillian Buell and Josephine Buell, of Wilder, Idaho, and Hattie Evans of Fort Wayne, Ind. Funeral services were held at the Osawatomie Baptist church (sic) Tuesday, Nov. 12 with Rev. W.H. Briggs and Rev. E.E. Beauchamp, officiating. Burial was in the family lot in the Paola cemetery (sic).
