J. Perry Pettyjohn

FORT WORTH - J. Perry Pettyjohn, a retired Fort Worth Fire Department district chief, died Tuesday at a Fort Worth hospital. He was 87.

Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Mount Olivet Funeral Home. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Chief Pettyjohn was born in Weatherford and had lived in Fort Worth most of his life. He was a member of the Fort Worth Fire Department for 44 years before retiring in 1973. During his time of employment with the Fire Department, he didn't miss a day of work, said his wife.

Chief Pettyjohn was a member of Tarrant Masonic Lodge for 62 years, a member of University Baptist Church and Moslah Shrine Temple.

The family suggests that memorials be made to the Fort Worth Fireman Relief Fund.

Survivors: Wife, Lillie Mae Pettyjohn of Fort Worth; three sons, M. Brian Pettyjohn of St. Louis, Mo., Don Pettyjohn of Maryland and James Perry Pettyjohn of Kingswood; daughter, Suzanne Pettyjohn of Fort Worth; two stepdaughters, Marilyn Lynch of Houston and Joan Johnson of Dewey, Okla.; nine grandchildren; and five
great-grandchildren.
