Emma Jane Bennett was born on 7 Oct 1853 to parents Emmet and Mary Ann Rogers Bennett. In 1875 she married Civil War veteran, William A. Allender (1848-1913) and they had three children:
1. Emmett R. Allender (died young on 6 Oct 1880)
2. Harriet L. "Hattie" Allender (1880-1957) who married Charles Frederick Gross
3. William Emmett Allender (1883-1920)
After the death of her husband, William, she was married on 11 Dec 1915 to John Alexander Armstrong (1853-1917).
