L.C. McNeil, 88, of Panama City, Fla., passed away Wednesday, Oct. 6, 2010.

He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who always was there with a helping hand and wonderful story for anyone who had a few minutes to sit back and listen.

L.C. will be greatly missed by his family, including his wife of 65 years, Elaine; children, Judy Brevik (Charles), Richard McNeil (JoAnn), Janice Davis (Kenn), Freddie McNeil (Darla), Roger McNeil (Suzanne), Darrel McNeil and Charlene McNeil; and 11 grandchildren, Eric Brevik (Cori), Ray Brevik (Karen), Bethany Brevik (Tim), Wayne McNeil, Lisa Williamson (Jeremy), Anna Davis, Scott Davis (Brianna), Christopher McNeil (Amy), Anthony Inman, Brian McNeil (Susan) and Sarah McNeil. L.C. also cherished his nine great-grandchildren, David, Joshua and Katherine Brevik, Kayla and Austin Brevik, Keenon Brevik, Allen Williamson, Caitlyn McNeil and Hunter McNeil. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Mary Inman (Don); and daughter-in-law, Laurie Anne McNeil.

A veteran of World War II, L.C. loved to reminisce of his travels to all parts of the world, including his time in the North Atlantic, Casa Blanca and the Pacific theaters. After leaving the Navy, he returned to Panama City and worked as a plumber and pipe fitter. He also loved the water and built two boats which he used to fish and shrimp in local waters until his health prevented him from continuing to captain his boat. He also loved to garden and care for his fruit trees, from which many family and friends enjoyed the harvest.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today, Oct. 8, 2010, at Forest Lawn Funeral Home. Funeral services will begin at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 9, 2010, at the Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Wesley Kan officiating. Burial with military honors offered by the U.S. Navy will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to a favorite charity or to Redemption Lutheran Church in memory of L.C. Asked to serve as pallbearers are Don Inman, Scott Davis, Ray Brevik, Brian McNeil, Christopher McNeil and Wayne McNeil. Honorary pallbearers will be Richard Post and members of the Steamfitters and Pipefitters Union No. 366.

The family wishes to thank the doctors and nursing staff at Gulf Coast Medical Center for the compassionate care given to L.C. during his illness and passing.
