Age 89, resident of Raleigh NC since 1950, died at his home; born in New York NY to Dutch parents Sophie Doff and John Theys; graduated from Erasmus Hall HS in Brooklyn; US Naval Academy graduate, class of '42; served in the Pacific as an officer on an aircraft carrier and two submarines during WW II; co founder of Clancy and Theys Construction Company from which he retired in 1986.

Predeceased by sisters Bette and Edith, and son Jeffrey Allen Theys.

Survivors include wife of 66 years Georgia Clancy Theys, son John (Lydia) Jr, two daughters; Jackie Theys Heron and Georgia Theys (Bill) Tryon, daughter in law Linda Hester Theys, 10 grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and special family friend/caregiver, Carolyn Walters.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his name to St. Labre Indian School, PO Box 216, Ashland, MT 59003, a charitable interest of his for many years, or to Hospice of Wake County, 1300 St Mary St., Raleigh 27605.
