Died at Bowling Green KY from injuries resulting from a railroad accident; thrown from the train.

Benjamin was the son of Thomas and Joice (Hicks) Kennedy. Before the Federal Census on July 18, 1860 he married Mary Eliza Harper. They were the parents of Mary Ellen who was born on January 26, 1862 in Crawford County, Illinois.

Benjamin died at Bowling Green, Kentucky on December 3, 1862. One military document has that date written as the 6th, but corrected to December 3. When he was re-interred from Bowling Green to the National Cemetery, the death date was recorded as the 6th.

On January 5, 1863 Mary Eliza applied for widow's pension from Benjamin's active duty death.

On December 31, 1863 Mary Eliza married William Franklin Dunlap with whom she had several more children.
