Obit: The community was saddened Saturday by the fatal accident of one of the older and most beloved citizens of Gibson. Mrs. Ellen Proctor, while making pear preserves on the gas range, stepped up on a chair to wind the clock above the stove. Her apron was ignited by the flame. She was able to extinguish the burning clothing, remove them, put on fresh clothes and call the doctor herself. She was taken in the Lamb Ambulance to the Mercy Hospital, Champaign, where she was cared for until her passing.
