My Grandfather George was the son of Albrecht Loewit (1859-1928) and Anna Kafka Loewit (1859-1926). He came to Youngstown, OH from New York City, NY on a train. He was a travelling salesman who sold eyeglasses. He settled in Youngstown, OH in 1917. He worked as an optometrist on the 4th floor of the McKelvey's Store in Youngstown. There he met his future bride, Sadye Friedman. He married her on June 3, 1917. They had two children: (1) Carolyn Ruth Loewit Kovsky (1919-1994) and (2) Irving George Loewit (1923-2003). In the 1920s, Dr. Loewit opened his own office on 12 South Phelps Street in Youngstown. Dr. Loewit's son-in-law, Albert Kovsky became his partner. Dr. Loewit's children also became optometrists. His granddaughter is now the 4th generation optometrist (George's father was the 1st generation optometrist). Dr. Loewit had 9 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
