I met Skip in 2004 during one of our visits to Johnson Co. He took my cousin & I to the graves of Hiram & Lucinda Shaver Tackett.

Funeral services will be held today, Friday, May 16, 3:30 p.m. at the Jones-Preston Funeral Home Chapel for Burl "Skip" Cantrell Jr., 65, of Staffordsville, Ky., who passed away Monday, May 12 at his residence. Mr. Cantrell was born Feb. 24, 1943 in Johnson County, Ky., son of the late Burl "Whitey" and Gladys Meade Cantrell. He was a former Johnson County Sheriff, a veteran of the U.S. Army, and worked with Natural Resources Exploration and Production. Surviving are his wife, Mellana Sharyl Williams Cantrell of Staffordsville; one son, Marcus Burl (Teresa) Cantrell of Staffordsville; one daughter, Patricia Lynette (Daniel) Blackman of Teca Cay, S.C.; two brothers, Jackie Randall Cantrell of Springfield, Ohio, and Wade Douglas Cantrell of Oil Springs, Ky.; one sister, Sandra Sue Browning of Paintsville, Ky.; and three grandchildren. The service will be officiated by Wayne Meade Jr., with burial following in the Highland Memorial Park at Staffordsville. Arrangements under the direction of the Jones-Preston Funeral Home of Paintsville.
