PATTIE ALLRED (1920-1996)

Priscilla "Pattie" Ruth Skeate was born May 1, 1920 in Seattle, Washington, the eldest of three daughters born to Delbert Skeate and Ruth Deborah Dannat. She was raised in Eglin, Kitsap County, and graduated from North Kitsap High School, Poulsbo, Washington, in 1938. She took off for California after high school and began an adventure. She even hitchhiked alone to Washington, D.C. at one time, according to her sister, Alice. At the age of 21 she was living in Marysville, California. In 1941 she also journeyed to Arizona. On September 13, 1953, she was baptized at the 1st Baptist Church at 21 Octavia Street, San Francisco. While working as a Nurse's Aide to an elderly man in southern California, she met William F. "Bill" Allred. Pattie and Bill married on 5 May 1962 at the Los Angeles County Courthouse. A very social couple, Pattie would play the piano in bars while Bill sang barroom ditties for patrons for enjoyment, often receiving nice tips. Pattie was self-taught in piano and the ukulele and also sang. The couple spent five more years in L.A. County before moving to Snohomish County, Washington, in April 1967. Before leaving California, she received the Rite of Confirmation at St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Glendale, California. A devout Christian, Pattie enjoyed attending services and listening to gospel music. Before Bill's death in 1988, both joined the VFW Post in Sultan. They were married twenty-six years. Pattie was the Chaplain for two years in the VFW Ladies' Auxiliary in Sultan. She lived in a senior housing unit in Sultan, enjoyed visiting her neighbors, attending church, and writing. Residents of Sultan remember Pattie as a woman of sweet disposition for many years. She was a sweet grandma to Tara and Ryan. She died at the age of 76 from an untreated ulcer. She is buried next to Bill in the Sultan Cemetery.
